KIA‘I ARREST RECORD EXPUNGEMENT CLINIC

WHAT: Free legal assistance to expunge arrest records for Kia‘i.
WHO: Event is open to the community. Expungement legal services available for kia‘i arrested protecting natural sources and sacred places at Kahuku wind turbines, Mauna Kea, Haleakalā, and Waimānalo Hūnānāniho.
WHEN: Saturday, March 25, 2023
TIME: 11:00 am – 3:00 pm
WHERE: Kahuku Community Center, 56-576 Kamehameha Hwy, Kahuku HI 96731

WHY: The Lāhui Foundation, in partnership with the State of Hawaii Office of the Public Defender, the Hawaii State Bar Association’s Committee on the Delivery of Legal Services to the Public, the Native Hawaiian Legal Corporation, the Hawaii Innocence Project, Project E4, the Hawaii Workers Center, Beyond Guilt Legal Clinic Hawaii, and Hawaii Community Bail Fund is providing free legal assistance to help over 200 kia‘i who were arrested putting their life down for our Keiki and ‘āina. From protesting the Kahuku wind turbines, Mauna Kea, Haleakalā, and Waimānalo Hūnānāniho, these arrests have come with consequences. Many are barred from employment after failing a background check, are unable to volunteer for their children’s sports team, and have been a barrier to adopting children.
